Tax Return

Income tax returns

We take away all the worry about your income tax return, offering a speedy preparation and filing service. We advise you on the amount of tax to pay, or, where appropriate, claim a refund on your behalf which is paid by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) direct to your account. Please note that tax returns filed on paper after 31 October may be charged an automatic £100 penalty. However, we can file for you online until 31 January 2010 without a penalty. We arrange for CIS refunds for building subcontractors under the new ‘voucherless’ system.

Tax advice and planning

‘It’s not what you do, but the way that you do it.’ Planning ahead and finding a way through legislation which becomes more complex each year can produce huge tax savings. We can give practical advice on how to plan to save tax.

Company accounts - Avoid increased penalties

We keep you up to date with changes in company law and help you ensure that your company meets the new standards and deadlines.

Wealth Creation

Value Added Tax

Business with a taxable turnover of less than £67,000 do not need to register for VAT. However, should your business be registered voluntarily? We can advise you and arrange for registration where necessary.

Corporation tax

Corporation tax for small companies has increased significantly in the last few years. However there is some better news for companies which invest in capital equipment. We can ensure that your company pays the minimum necessary amount of corporation tax.

Starting a business

We give practical advice on setting up a business, including helping with business plans and registration with HMRC. We can answer your questions on how to keep your records and your National Insurance position.

Capital gains tax

Recent changes to capital gains tax mean that capital gains are now generally taxed at a flat 18% rate. This is good news for long term ‘buy to let’ landlords, but less good for those selling trading companies. However, there is a 10% lifetime relief for entrepreneurs on gains of up to £1 million, restoring business asset relief to some extent.

Advice

Personal service companies (IR 35) and managed service companies

HMRC are stepping up their reviews on the use of service companies. We can offer practical advice on the issues.

HMRC tax enquiries

We have over 30 years’ experience in dealing with HMRC tax enquiries. We prepare responses to questions, attend meetings and, where necessary, negotiate a settlement on your behalf.

Inheritance tax

Despite the recent downturn in the housing market, increases in house prices over the last 10 years or so have drawn many more people into inheritance tax. We can advise on ways to reduce this.

Buying a business or franchise

When buying a business or franchise, how can you be sure that the seller’s claims are realistic? We will review the business with you and help you make your decision.

Surviving the recession

The econoomic climate poses new threats to all businesses. We offer practical advice on surviving and prospering in the recession.

Improving your business

Do you want to make more from your business and believe that it has greater potential? We can help you identify practical ways in which its financial performance can be improved.

Financial references

The ‘credit crunch’ has made it essential to have a financial reference for mortgage and tenancy applications. We can review your financial situation and supply references for you.
